Shri Rama Krishna Temple, Narendrapur

Shri Rama Krishna Mandir, Narendrapur

Going beyond the chaos of the city Kolkata, a suburban area at Narendrapur (a 15-min journey by autorickshaw from the Patuli-Sonarpur road connector) many Rama Krishna Dev devotees regularly visit the Shri Rama Krishna Mandir, which is the 3rd most revered place after the Belur Math and the Dakshineshwar Mandir.

Once passing through the entry gates, it is noticeable how much more calm and green the surrounding is compared to the outside. There is hardly any commotion, devotees are entering or coming out of the temple building individually or by groups, all peacefully.

Anyone can enter the temple in regular days, many prayer songs are offered and the devotees sit through the prayers in meditative peace. At evening, there is ‘Aratrik’,a traditional candlestick-wielding ritual along with different prayers, shlokas (hymns).

The simplicity is the most significant charm of this temple, which is neither too big to notice it from a big distance nor too glitzy to overshadow the simple worshiping of the humble devotees.
